Book Worm: Life on the Line

I recently finished the memoir, Life on the Line by famous chef Grant Achatz of Alinea. It was a truly fascinating story  about the development of a chef and seeing his passion turn into his dream.

This book is divided into three parts: The first part about Grant’s childhood in Michigan and his upbringing in the food and restaurant lifestyle. Second part of his experience working at The French Laundry and Trio, and then the development and buildout of Alinea. The third part of the book is about Grant’s battle with tongue cancer.  It was captivating learning about the world of a chef (especially a Chicago one!)  and how a restaurant comes to fruition. Overall, it is a story of determination and the willingness to fight for what you want in life.

Here’s a video about Alinea which is a great representation of Grant’s style and presence.
